FAQ

Good questions.

Bonnes questions.

What is a bridge chip?C’est quoi, une puce pont ?

A translator. The computer only speaks USB on its port; a fast SSD speaks NVMe over PCIe. The bridge converts one into the other in real time.

Why the JMS583?Pourquoi le JMS583 ?

It’s a proven USB 3.2 Gen 2 to NVMe bridge, used in many SSD enclosures, at the right speed (10 Gb/s) for a pocket drive, in a small package.

Can I buy JMS583 chips?Puis-je acheter des puces JMS583 ?

They’re sold through JMicron’s distributors, mainly to companies. For Éclair’s prototypes, BONMECK offered the samples.

Is CARTOUCHE part of JMicron?CARTOUCHE fait-elle partie de JMicron ?

No. CARTOUCHE is an independent non-profit project; JMicron and BONMECK support Éclair with the bridge chips.

Non.
